Welcome accessory for your serger

If you use a serger, you know how noisy they are. No matter what the brand, they are noisy. And they vibrate, too. Some of the least expensive sergers sound like a freight train rolling through your house!

Since I am temporarily sewing on a hollow plastic topped conference table, the sound and rattle of my sergers was getting to be too much so I ordered a couple of these mats. Wow! What a difference.

You will notice they are quite weighty for their size and they feel almost like a dense, flexible rubber. The top is heavily textured so when you place your serger on it, there is no slipping and sliding. It makes serging so much quieter and absorbs a huge amount of the vibration. The size is generous and my serger with the largest footprint fits easily on it with room to spare. It also protects the surface of your table if you happen to be someone who sews on the dining table.

One surprising feature is that you can stick pins in it. This is f antastic for me. I've never gotten used to wearing that pin cushion wrist thingy and my large pin cushion seems to be always out of reach. Being able to remove pins as I sew and stick them into this mat speeds things up tremendously for me since I pin heavily.

If you have a serger or know someone who does, this is a welcome accessory. And FYI, Cottage Mills makes mats for sewing machines, too. I purchased a couple and they work just as well if you happen to have a noisy sewing machine.
